Getting around Nice France
&
The French Riviera
We recommend walking, and the high speed trains to get around Nice and neighboring villages. If you stay near Old Town Nice, you will be close enough to walk to the beach, shops, dining, and train stops!
If you stay more inland, you will likely need to look at rental cars, Ubers, or get good with the trams and buses!
To get to other villages you can rent a car or use the train! We recommend trains as they are cheap, quick, and you don’t have to deal with foreign driving and parking.
FLIGHTS
-
Salt Lake and Spokane have flights that go to Nice International, but you’ll likely have a layover or 2 to get to the east coast first. Our flights are stopping in Atlanta both ways, but from Atlanta we’ll be direct to Nice.
Nice Côte d'Azur International Airport is the airport we recommend flying into for our elopement. The airport is located about 4 miles from Nice's city center.
-
If traveling from Paris to Nice, these flights are around $100 and take about one hour and thirty minutes. Check easyJet or AirFrance for all options!
Salt Lake City has a number of direct flights to Paris if you feel like exploring while you’re in Europe. From Paris you could train or do a quick flight on budget airline down to Nice International.
-
Salt Lake City has a number of direct flights to Barcelona and other EU cities if you feel like exploring while you’re in Europe. From most of these cities you could train or do a quick flight on a budget airline down to Nice International. Europe has many budget airlines with cheaper, quick flights that can get you from major cities to coastlines and countrysides.
When we came to France in 2024 we found direct flights for $450 from SLC→ Barcelona Spain International airport. We then booked $100 flights with a budget airline called Vueling from Barcelona→ Nice International. To get back to Barcelona at the end of our time in Nice, we took trains back up the coastline, stopping in Marseille France, then Barcelona.
FRANCE CAR TRANSPORTS
-
By car, the journey from the airport to the city center takes between 15 and 20 minutes. There are multiple transit options available, including taxis, Ubers, and hotel shuttles that may be organized through your hotel.
-
Nice Airport taxis operate on a flat fee system from the airport to the city center and vice versa; a journey should cost approximately 32 Euros. However, some taxis may charge more during public holidays, holy days, weekends and night times.
-
Mckayla recommends Blacklane, it’s a little pricey but was very professional and reliable for half a dozen transports on her Italy trip. Especially nice for airport transports!

FRANCE TRAINS
-
Public transportation is the cheapest method of getting to downtown Nice from the Nice airport, and it’s a popular way to travel. You can take the tram or bus. Tickets are a bargain at 1.50 Euros.
